| |  Award for Corporate ExcellenceThe Award for Corporate Excellence, established by the State Department in 1999, recognizes the important role U.S. businesses play abroad as good corporate citizens. The Award sends a strong signal of the Department's commitment to further exemplary practices worldwide and highlights our increasing role in business-related issues. Winners include both multinational (MNE) and small-to-medium size enterprises (SME).
U.S. companies are nominated by Chiefs of Mission and the winners are recognized with a handsome, copyrighted award in a formal ceremony hosted by the Secretary of State in Washington, DC. The ceremony, attended by representatives from Congress, the Diplomatic Corps and leaders from both the business and NGO communities includes participation, via satellite, with winning Chiefs of Mission, in-country company executives and invited guests. The event is open to the media in Washington and overseas.

Under Secretary of State for Economic, Energy and Agricultural Affairs Reuben Jeffery III announced and presented the 2008 Secretary of State’s Awards for Corporate Excellence (ACE) on Thursday, November 6, 2008, at a ceremony in the Benjamin Franklin Room of the U.S. Department of State.
The small business winner is SURevolution of New York, NY, for its work in Colombia. The multinational winner is Cargill of Minneapolis, MN, for it programs and activities in China.
The Secretary of State awards the ACE in recognition of the vital role that U.S. businesses play worldwide to advance good corporate governance and democratic principles and to highlight the Department’s commitment to promote exemplary business practices globally. This year marks the 10th annual presentation of the ACE.
