Karl Hofmann
Ambassador, Republic of Togo
Term of Appointment: 09/29/2000 to 12/14/2002

Karl Hofmann was sworn in as U.S. Ambassador to the Republic of Togo on September 29, 2000.

Ambassador Hofmann is a career member of the Senior Foreign Service and has been posted in Lesotho, Morocco, Rwanda, and Jamaica. He has held a variety of positions at the Department of State and worked at the National Security Council at the White House.

Ambassador Hofmann received a Superior Honor award in 1994 and Meritorious Honor awards in 1990 and 1987 from the Department of State for his exemplary service.

Ambassador Hofmann has degrees from Georgetown University and the National War College. He speaks French, Spanish, and German.

He is married and has three children.
