East Asia and Pacific Programs

DRL currently funds over 60 democracy, human rights, and labor programs in East Asia and Pacific countries (EAP). Current funding for DRL programs in EAP, including non-HRDF resources, exceeds $73 million. Program topics include combating gender-based violence, supporting local and national election participation and providing women political training.

One program has a regional focus. This program seeks to build the capacity of, and encourage dynamic networking among, moderate Muslim organizations in Southeast Asia. The project establishes support mechanisms to promote communication and alliance building amongst progressive Muslim groups and draws upon well-established resources of Muslim scholars. The project takes place in four countries in the region: Indonesia, the Philippines, Malaysia and Thailand.
