Clifford G. Bond
Ambassador, Bosnia and Herzegovina
Term of Appointment: 10/26/2001 to 08/09/2004

Clifford G. Bond was sworn in as Ambassador to Bosnia and Herzegovina on October 26, 2001.

Ambassador Bond is a career Foreign Service officer with the rank of Minister-Counselor. He began his career at the US Mission to the then European Communities and subsequently worked at U.S. Embassies in Belgrade, Stockholm, and Prague holding a number of political, economic, and commercial assignments. He returned to Washington in 1990, to serve as a Special Advisor to the Coordinator for the Support to East European Democracies (SEED) program and was attached to the Office of the Deputy Secretary of State. In 1992-95, Ambassador Bond served as Deputy Director of the Office of Independent States and Commonwealth Affairs (formerly Soviet Affairs) with responsibility for regional economic relations. In 1996-98, he served as Minister-Counselor for Economic Affairs at the US Embassy in Moscow. He returned to Washington in 1998 to head the Office of Caucasus and Central Asian Affairs. Prior to his appointment as Ambassador to Bosnia and Herzegovina, he served as the Acting Principal Deputy to the Special Advisor for the New Independent States.

Ambassador Bond received his undergraduate degree in 1970 from Georgetown Universityís School of Foreign Service and his M.Sc. (Econ) in 1971 from the London School of Economics. He also attended the National War College. He is a recipient of the State Departmentís Superior Honor and Meritorious Honor Awards. Prior to the State Department, he worked at the Federal Reserve Bank of New York and served in the U.S. Army in Germany.

Ambassador Bond was born on February 23, 1948.
