Jimmy Kolker
Ambassador, Uganda
Term of Appointment: 09/17/2002 to 01/23/2006

Jimmy Kolker was sworn in as U.S. Ambassador to Uganda on September 17, 2002. From November 1999 to August 2002, he served as U.S. Ambassador to Burkina Faso.

Ambassador Kolker is a Minister-Counselor in the career Foreign Service and has served in numerous political reporting and management assignments during his 25-year diplomatic career. Previous overseas posts were Mozambique, Zimbabwe, Sweden, and Britain. Ambassador Kolker was Deputy Chief of Mission in Botswana 1990-1994 and in Denmark from 1996-1999. He served Washington tours in the Africa Bureau and as a Senior Advisor to the Under Secretary for Management.

Ambassador Kolker was born in St. Louis, Missouri. He holds a B.A. in Political Science from Carleton College (Minnesota) and a Masterís in Public Administration from Harvard University. He speaks French, Swedish, and Portuguese.
