Myles, Marianne M.
Charge d'Affaires, to Uruguay
Term of Appointment: 03/01/2001 to 10/17/2001

Marianne Matuzic Myles assumed the position as Chargé d´Affaires, a.i., on March 1, 200, upon the departure of Ambassador Christopher Ashby.

Ms. Myles, who arrived in Montevideo in September 2000, joined the U.S. Foreign Service in 1975. From 1976-78, she served as an Economic Officer in Bogota, Colombia. She then worked as Assistant Commercial Attaché in Rome, Italy, from 1978-81. Afterwards, Ms. Myles held two consecutive positions in the Department of State's Economic Bureau -- first as an Export Control Officer in the Office of East-West Trade (1982-84), and then as an International Economist in the Office of Business Practices (1985-88).

Ms. Myles went on to three separate assignments in Brazil: Principal Officer of the Consulate in Porto Alegre (1988-90); Deputy Principal Officer and Economic Section Chief of the Consulate in Rio de Janeiro (1991-92); and Senior Personnel Officer in the Embassy in Brasilia (1992-94). She then returned to Washington for a year at the National War College (1994-95), and subsequently served as Director of Policy Coordination under the Director General of the Foreign Service. She was Consul General in Naples, Italy, from 1997 to 2000.

Ms. Myles holds a B.S. from the State University of New York at Oswego, a Masters in Public Administration from Harvard University, and a Masters of Science in National Security Strategy from the National Defense University. She speaks Italian, Portuguese, and Spanish and is a multiple recipient of the Department's Superior and Meritorious Honor Awards.

Ms. Myles, a native of Buffalo, New York, is married and has one daughter.
