John Doyle Ong
Ambassador, Norway
Term of Appointment: 02/15/2002 to present

John Doyle Ong was sworn in as Ambassador to Norway on February 15, 2002.

Before being nominated by President Bush to serve as Ambassador, John Ong was Chairman Emeritus of the BF Goodrich Company. He retired as chairman of the Board of Directors in 1997 after more than 36 years of service to the company. Ambassador Ong was elected chairman and chief executive officer of BF Goodrich in 1979 and was elected president in 1975. He held a variety of positions during his tenure at BF Goodrich including vice president and president of International BF Goodrich. President Reagan appointed Ambassador Ong to the President's Commission on Industrial Competitiveness in 1984.

Ambassador Ong currently serves as a life trustee of the University of Chicago and is Chairman of the Board of the Musical Arts Association of Cleveland. Ong is a former Chairman of the Business Roundtable, the National Alliance of Business and the Ohio Business Round Table. Ambassador Ong is a recipient of the Humanities Award of Distinction from Ohio State University's College of Humanities, the Alumni Medal from Ohio State University, and honorary doctorates from Ohio State University, Kent State University and the University of Akron.

A native of Ohio, Ambassador Ong received both his undergraduate and Master's degree from Ohio State University and his law degree from Harvard University.
