Assistant Secretary Hill: Travel to Asia

Six-Party Talks
Assistant Secretary Hill (June 18):
"...The North Koreans went ahead and invited the IAEA to come to North Korea and to begin this process of shutting down the Yongbyon nuclear complex. ....This weekend represents an important pivot away from banking matters that have held us up a long time back towards the subject that I think is most important, and that is denuclearization." 

Assistant Secretary for East Asian and Pacific Affairs Christopher Hill traveled to Mongolia on June 15 to participate in Asia Society's 35th Williamsburg conference on "Changing Asia, Changing World" that went from June 15th to the 18th. He then went to Beijing June 18th; Seoul June 18th to 19th; and Tokyo June 19th and 20th. And he's talked about bilateral issues, dominated by issues related to the Six-Party Talks and how to move forward. Assistant Secretary Hill made a surprise visit to North Korea on June 21.
