Message of Commerce Secretary to the American-Lithuanian Business ForumDonald Evans, Secretary of Commerce
Remarks to the First American-Lithuanian Business Forum
July 7, 2003
On the occasion of the First American-Lithuanian Business Forum in Vilnius, it is my great pleasure to extend greetings and best wishes to all in attendance at this important event. I wish all participants success in your endeavors.
Lithuania has been a steadfast friend to the United States, standing beside us in both Iraq and the war against terrorism. This cooperation has brought our two countries closer together both politically and economically. Events such as today’s Forum build on our strong bilateral relationship and help further develop our economic ties.
Lithuania has made great strides over the past decade in carrying out democratic and free-market economic reforms. Lithuania has joined NATO and now stands poised to become a European Union member. We believe that numerous economic opportunities are waiting to be tapped in Lithuania, and the U.S. Department of Commerce stands ready to help. Both our U.S. & Foreign Commercial Service and our Central and Eastern Europe Business Information Center are prepared to assist you in exploring the Lithuanian market and in doing business there.
We applaud the Lithuanian Development Agency, the American Chamber of Commerce in Vilnius, and the Lithuanian Embassy in Washington for organizing today’s Forum. We wish the Forum success and hope that it will lead to economic growth in Lithuania and increased prosperity in both our countries.
