Council for a Community of Democracies (CCD)
The Council, a non-profit organization, was founded in 2001 following the launching in 2000 of the Community of Democracies in Warsaw, Poland at which over 100 countries formulated and committed to the Warsaw Declaration calling for the consolidation and expansion of democracy around the world. Since its founding the Council has helped develop a worldwide non-governmental network that has interacted with governments to promote democracy as part of the Community of Democracies movement. Among its initiatives are support for the building of a caucus of democracies at the United Nations, the creation of a Democracy Transition Center and the promotion of democracy education as fundamental to the strengthening of democratic cultures.
