Debra Hess Norris

Debra Hess Norris is Chair and Professor of photograph conservation in the Art Conservation Department at the University of Delaware. She also serves as Director of the Winterthur/University of Delaware Program in Art Conservation one of only four graduate programs in art conservation in the United States. Since 1985, she has authored more than 25 articles and book chapters on the care and treatment of photographic materials, emergency response, ethics, and conservation education; and taught more than 80 workshops for conservators and allied professionals. Debra has consulted on the preservation of photographic collections worldwide, including in Russia, Denmark, France, Finland, Australia, and New Zealand. She is the Chair of Heritage Preservation, on the board of the Conservation Center for Art and Historic Artifacts and the Delaware Humanities Council, and a member of the Preservation Advisory Council to the National Archives and the Getty Grant Program Review Panel. She is a Past President of the American Institute for Conservation. She was recently appointed as the Henry Francis duPont Chair of Fine Arts. Debra earned her BA degree in chemistry, art history, and studio art (1977) and MS in conservation (1980) from the University of Delaware. In 2002, she was inducted into the University of Delaware's Alumni Wall of Fame.
