Christie Brandau,

Christie Pearson Brandau is a native Iowan with over 30 years of experience working in libraries. She began her duties as State Librarian of Kansas in February 2005. From 2000 until coming to Kansas, she was State Librarian of Michigan. Prior to 2000, she served as Assistant State Librarian of Iowa, as Assistant Administrator of the North Central Regional Library System, and as a public librarian in two small towns in Iowa.

Brandau is legislative co-chair and serves on the executive committee of COSLA (the Chief Officers of State Library Agencies). Brandau is a member of the American Library Association and the Public Library Association. In 2003, she won the Michigan Association for Media in Education Presidentís Award for outstanding support and advocacy for school library media specialists and programs. In Michigan, she served as a member of the National Historical Publications Commission, and was appointed to the Michigan Humanities Council in 2002. She holds a Bachelorís degree from Iowa State University and a Masterís degree in Library Science from the University of Iowa.
She and her husband live in Topeka. They have three grown children.
