William R. Brownfield, Ambassador to the Republic of Chile

Ambassador William R. Brownfield (center)
Ambassador William Brownfield (center) speaks to Chilean Presidente Ricardo Lagos after presenting his credential at La Moneda Presidencial Palace, March 25, 2002. Foreign Minister Soledad Alvear is on the left.

Ambassador Brownfield: "Whenever I talk to family or friends from home, I realize that what we do overseas has a direct impact on the daily lives of all Americans, even those from small farming towns in remote areas in West Texas."

Ambassador Brownfield's  hometown is Lubbock, Texas, although his family comes from a small town 40 miles south in Terry County. Four generations before him were west Texas ranchers and cotton farmers. He is probably the only ambassador to come out of Terry County.
