Apprehension of ICTY Indictees in Kosovo and Slovenia

On February 17, the Kosovo Force apprehended Haradin Bala, Isak Musliu, and Agim Murtezi, indicted by the International Criminal Tribunal for the Former Yugoslavia on January 27, 2003 under seal. They were transferred yesterday, February 18, 2003 to Tribunal custody in The Hague. A fourth indictee, Fatmir Limaj, was taken into custody on February 18, 2003 by authorities in Slovenia. All four indictees were members of the Kosovo Liberation Army (KLA) and are charged with crimes against humanity and violations of the laws or customs of war for allegedly imprisoning, torturing, and murdering civilians in a prison camp in Kosovo in 1998.

We urge all states in the region to apprehend the remaining at large indictees, especially Radovan Karadzic, Ratko Mladic and the remaining two of the so-called “Vukovar Three” indictees.

Released on February 19, 2003
