Deputy Secretary of State Richard L. Armitage Attends World Refugee Day Commemoration

Deputy Secretary of State Richard L. Armitage, along with United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees’ Goodwill Ambassador Angelina Jolie, will commemorate World Refugee Day on Friday June 20, 2003, at 10:00 a.m. at National Geographic’s Grosvenor Auditorium, 1600 M Street, N.W. Deputy Secretary Armitage will deliver brief remarks; he will not be taking questions.

The commemoration is sponsored by the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees and will focus particularly on refugee youth.

This event is open for press coverage.

Pre-set time for cameras:   9:15 a.m.
Final Access time for all press:   9:40 a.m.

Media representatives may cover this event upon presentation of the following:
(1) a U.S. Government-issued identification card (Department of State, White House, Congress, Department of Defense or Foreign Press Center), (2) a media-issued photo identification card, or (3) an official letter from their employer on original letterhead verifying their employment as a journalist, accompanied by an official photo identification (driver’s license or passport).
