Assistant Secretary Kansteiner to Discuss Tenure at Department of State - October 28

2003/1083 - REVISED

On the eve of his departure from the Department of State, Walter H. Kansteiner III, Assistant Secretary of State for African Affairs, will hold an on-the-record briefing in the Briefing Room on TUESDAY, OCTOBER 28, 2003, AT 9:00 A.M.

Mr. Kansteiner, who is returning to private life as of November 1, 2003, will discuss issues, policies, and goals that he and his staff have faced since he was sworn in as Assistant Secretary on June 4, 2001. Mr. Kansteiner also will highlight those Bureau of African Affairs accomplishments that he is particularly proud of, such as the encouraging progress being made in the Sudan peace process and Sub-Saharan Africaís positive growth in its private sector and stewardship of its natural resources.

Press wishing to attend this briefing who do not have a Department of State building pass should arrive at the 23rd street entrance by 8:45 A.M. for access to the briefing room.

Media representatives who plan to attend must present one of the following press credentials: (1) a U.S. Government-issued identification card (Department of State, White House, Congress, Department of Defense, or Foreign Press Center), (2) a media-issued photo identification card, or (3) a letter from their employer on letterhead verifying their employment as a journalist, accompanied by an official photo identification (driverís license or passport).
