Assistant Secretary Charles to Discuss the State Department's Air Wing and Plan Colombia

Robert B. Charles, Assistant Secretary of State for International and Law Enforcement Affairs, will hold an ON-THE-RECORD/ON-CAMERA briefing Wednesday, October 29, 2003 at 11:00 a.m. in the State Department Briefing Room (2209).

Mr. Charles, who welcomes this first opportunity to introduce himself to the press, will discuss the State Departmentís dedicated Air Wing which plays a vital role in Plan Colombia. It is comprised of highly qualified aviation professionals that work every day in incredibly hostile conditions to implement eradication efforts, furthering the successes of the United States and Andean Region war against drugs.

Press wishing to attend this briefing that do not have a State Department Building pass should arrive at the 23rd Street entrance by 10:45 a.m. for clearance through security and access to the briefing room.

Media representatives may attend upon presentation of one of the following press credentials: (1) a U.S. Government-issued identification card (Department of State, White House, Congress, Department of Defense or Foreign Press Center), (2) a media-issued photo identification card, or (3) a letter from their employer on letterhead verifying their employment as a journalist, accompanied by an official photo identification (driver's license or passport).
