Question Taken at May 16, 2006, Daily Press Briefing

Iran: Attendance at the Shanghai Cooperation Organization Summit

Question: Has the Iranian president been invited to attend the summit of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization?

Answer: Iran is one of four states with observerships in the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) (the others being India, Pakistan and Mongolia). We have seen press reports that the Iranians plan to attend the June 15 SCO meeting in Shanghai, China, but would refer you to the Iranians and the SCO member states for any discussion of their plans.
