Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice To Present 2006 Awards for Corporate Excellence

Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice will announce and present the 2006 Awards for Corporate Excellence (ACE) on Monday, November 6, 2006, at 12:00 p.m. in the Benjamin Franklin Room of the U.S. Department of State.

The Secretary of State has awarded the ACE since 1999 in recognition of the vital role that U.S. businesses play worldwide to advance good corporate governance and democratic principles and to highlight the Department’s commitment to promote exemplary business practices globally.

The three 2006 ACE winners were selected from among the following 12 finalists: APCO in China, Chevron in Indonesia, Coca-Cola in Mexico, Delta Construction in Vietnam, General Motors in Colombia, Goldman Sachs in Chile, Kerr McGee in Benin, McDonald’s in Guatemala, Microsoft in Egypt, Motorola in Iraq, Pfizer in Pakistan, and Sambazon in Brazil.

After the presentation of the awards by the Secretary, Under Secretary for Economic, Business and Agricultural Affairs, Josette Sheeran, will lead the interactive portion of the ACE ceremony via satellite with U.S. Ambassadors and local company executives at the U.S. Embassies which submitted winning nominations. The program will conclude with an interactive dialogue between the Washington audience and selected experts moderated by Assistant Secretary for Western Hemiphere Affairs, Tom Shannon.
