United States Government Establishes Counterinsurgency Website

The Department of State has established a United States Government Counterinsurgency website at www.usgcoin.org to serve as a clearinghouse for information on counterinsurgency.

The need for this website emerged from the Counterinsurgency Conference hosted by the Departments of State and Defense, September 28-29, at the Ronald Reagan Center. The goal of the conference was to facilitate the development of an integrated U.S. Government approach to counterinsurgency that would bringing all elements of U.S. national power to bear in countering transnational insurgencies.

Conference participants included senior officials from the National Security Council; the Departments of State, Defense, Justice, and the Treasury; the U.S. Agency for International Development; and the intelligence community; as well as members of Congress and their staff; and representatives from think tanks, academia, the media; and the Governments of the United Kingdom and Australia.

The final counterinsurgency conference report will be posted to the website within 4-6 weeks. If you have any questions regarding the website, please contact Thomas Cooney at CooneyTF@state.gov.
