Question Taken at the December 7 Daily Press Briefing

Colombia -- Government Discussions With Rebel Groups (Taken Question)

Question: What is the U.S. opinion of discussions taking place between the Government of Colombia and the rebels?

Answer: The United States supports the Colombian government's efforts to ensure that paramilitary leaders remain in detention and abide by their commitments, including ending violence and cooperating with investigations and recovery of assets.

We will continue to support the Colombian government's efforts to end violence and narcotics trafficking by illegal armed groups, to uncover the truth about their criminal activities, and to assist the victims.
