Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice To Address The Organization of American States And The African Union Democracy Bridge Forum

Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice will deliver remarks at the Organization of American States (OAS) and the African Union (AU) inaugural meeting, entitled “Democracy Bridge: Multilateral Regional Efforts for the Promotion and Defense of Democracy in Africa and the Americas” at 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday, July 11, 2007 at the Organization of American States Headquarters, 17th Street & Constitution Avenue, NW, Washington, DC. There will not be a question and answer session during this event.

Senior government officials, academics, and civil society representatives from Africa and the Americas will come together to discuss the advancement of democracy in both continents and the opportunities and challenges in implementing the African Charter on Democracy, Elections and Governance and the Inter-American Democratic Charter.

Members of the press interested in attending should arrive at the C Street entrance of the OAS Headquarters beginning at 9:00 a.m.

Final press pick-up time: 9:30 a.m.

Please note: Press will not be allowed access to the event after 9:30 a.m.

Media representatives must present one of the following: (1) a U.S. Government-issued identification card (Department of State, White House, Congress, Department of Defense, or Foreign Press Center), (2) a media-issued photo identification card, or (3) a letter from their employer on letterhead verifying their employment as a journalist, accompanied by an official photo identification (driver's license or passport).
