European Union on the Signing of the Treaty of Lisbon

The United States congratulates the European Union on the signing of the Treaty of Lisbon. This action by the Heads of Government of the Member States of the Union represents the culmination of several years of efforts designed to enhance the functioning of the EU. The United States supports a strong European Union as a global force for democracy, peace, and prosperity. The EU is a strong and essential partner of the U.S., and we look forward to our continued collaboration in meeting global challenges.
