Deputy Secretary of State John Negroponte and Chief of Protocol Nancy G. Brinker To Host Diplomatic Corps Reception at National Archives

Deputy Secretary of State John Negroponte and Chief of Protocol Nancy G. Brinker will host a reception for the Diplomatic Corps at the National Archives on Thursday, October 11, 2007. The event will include remarks by Deputy Secretary of State Negroponte, Ambassador Brinker, and the Archivist of the United States, Allen Weinstein. It will also include tours of the Charters of Freedom (the Declaration of Independence, the U.S. Constitution and the Bill of Rights) and other founding documents. A visit to the Public Vaults, a permanent exhibition of the National Archives, is also planned.

In her first official Diplomatic Corps event as Chief of Protocol, Ambassador Brinker plans to highlight her top priorities, including an outreach program designed specifically for the foreign Ambassadors serving in Washington, D.C.

Working members of the press are invited to attend the event, but must be credentialed.

PLEASE NOTE: Lights may be used during the remarks because the Charters of Freedom will be covered. Following the remarks, however, the original documents will be on view and NO LIGHTS WILL BE PERMITTED.
