Iraq: United Nations Chapter VII Resolution (Taken Question)

Question: Is Iraq still under the United Nations Chapter VII Resolution that authorizes the multinational force? What is the current status?

The United Nations Security Council mandate that authorizes the multinational force in Iraq will end on December 31, 2008.

The Presidency Council’s recent ratification of the Strategic Framework Agreement and Security Agreement is a strong signal to the international community that Iraq is ready to emerge from Chapter VII of the United Nations Charter. These agreements take effect on January 1, 2009.
