Question Taken at March 28, 2008 Daily Press Briefing

India: Soldiers Missing from Camp Pendleton

Question: What information do we have about a group of Indian soldiers who have gone missing from Camp Pendleton? Have we been contacted by the Indian government? What information are we able to provide them? What assistance have we offered?

Answer: We can confirm reports that two Indian soldiers disappeared from Camp Pendleton during a training assignment. Our Office of Foreign Missions in Los Angeles received a letter today from the Indian Consulate in San Francisco requesting assistance in liaising with local law enforcement officials about the missing soldiers. We are working with the Department of Defense, as well as state and local law enforcement agencies, to provide the Indian government with all the help it needs to locate these individuals.
