Ukraine/Russia: Dispute Regarding Gas Deliveries

We regret the escalation of the gas dispute between Ukraine and Russia, which has resulted in decreased gas flows to European customers. These gas cutoffs are unacceptable. We welcome the announcement that Gazprom and Naftohaz will restart negotiations on January 8 and call on both sides to engage in a good faith effort to resolve their dispute in a transparent, commercial manner. This episode underscores the critical need to diversify sources of natural gas, as well as other energy supplies.
