China: The Deputy's Travel to Beijing (Taken Question)

Question: What details can you provide regarding Deputy Secretary Negroponte’s travel to China? Who will he be meeting with? What issues will he discuss?

Answer: January 1, 2009 marks the thirtieth anniversary of the establishment of formal bilateral relations between the United States and the People’s Republic of China. During his visit to China, Deputy Secretary Negroponte will mark the occasion in his meetings with Chinese leaders and will participate in anniversary events, including a commemorative ping pong event and a speech at the American Chamber of Commerce. Deputy Secretary Negroponte will meet with State Councilor Dai Bingguo, Foreign Minister Yang, and other Chinese leaders to discuss a full range of international and bilateral issues of mutual concern.
