30 Years of ASEAN-U.S. Relations

Logo reading 30th Anniversary ASEAN-US DialogueWHAT: The United States dialogue with the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) began in 1977 with the first ASEAN-U.S. Dialogue meeting in Manila. The Secretary's Open Forum presents three distinguished officials from ASEAN nations, who will discuss the 30-year history of the U.S.-ASEAN dialogue, and will look ahead to ASEAN’s future.

WHOSingapore Deputy Prime Minister S. Jayakumar will be joined by ASEAN Secretary General Ong Keng Yong and Deputy Assistant Secretary for East Asian and Pacific Affairs Eric John in a panel discussion.  Professor Jayakumar is also Coordinating Minister for National Security and Minister for Law in the Singapore government and has served as Minister for Foreign Affairs, Home Affairs and Labor, and as Permanent Representative to the United Nations. Secretary General Ong is a career officer in the Singapore Foreign Service and served as his country’s High Commissioner to India and Ambassador to Nepal and as Press Secretary to the Prime Minister.
