Secretary Rice: Travel to London, January 31-February 1, 2006

Secretary Rice led the U.S. delegation at the London Conference on Afghanistan hosted by the United Kingdom. The Conference marks the beginning of a new phase in the international community’s long-term partnership with Afghanistan.

At the conference, the elected government of Afghanistan outlined its goals for security, development, governance, human rights, and counter-narcotics. The international community committed politically and financially to supporting these goals.

Secretary Rice also had a meeting of the Middle East Quartet and a dinner with ministers from the EU-3 countries: United Kingdom, France and Germany, from Russia and from China. And that dinner was devoted to the question of Iran.
